It Is What It Is (And I Love It)
"Hyrule Warriors" is a cross-over/spin-off entry in the long-running Koei Tecmo series "Dynasty Warriors." Contrary to the overwhelming superficial evidence, this does not play at all like a traditional "The Legend of Zelda" game. Everything that comprises the "Hyrule" portion of the title can be covered as aesthetics. Which is both good and bad. The difference is established by one's personal opinion. As for my outlook? I adore everything that this game brings to the table. Your mileage may vary, as they say.

This is very far from a perfect or flawless game, mind you. As has been par for the Warriors series, there is a lot of enemy pop-in, the AI is very minimal, difficulty will spike erroneously, and there is very little variety in the overall procedure of each stage. If a deep, sprawling epic with loads of nuance and character development, and a bunch of clever, thought-provoking challenges are what you expect out of your games, this game won't be for you. That said, if you find amusement in periodically turning off your mind for an all out, balls-to-the-walls power trip, you may find a lot of value in this title. Even more so when paired up with a good friend in local cooperative play; using the Wii U GamePad as a asynchronous split-screen is a joy. Just try to overlook the reduced visual fidelity. The fun is worth the trade-off, in my eyes.

As a final note, please do not use the user reviews portion of GameFly to vent your complaints regarding the service and/or damaged discs. There is a very easy to find page specifically for reporting such issues and seeing them alleviated ASAP. Your, while most likely justified, bouts of angst do nothing, but mislead potential customers from a game by lowering the overall rating number that, sadly, a lot of people bank their investments on. Please keep this in mind.

A Zelda fans paradise.
Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of the "dynasty warriors" games. I pretty much feel as though if you have played one of those then you played them all, the Zelda franchise however holds a special place in my heart. When you mash the two together you get a title that manages to be quite fun and definitely worth playing if you enjoy either of those franchises. The amount of Zelda fan service in this title is fantastic, the sights and sounds and characters of those bright imaginative Nintendo worlds are all reimagined here in new gen glory. The combat is your typical Dynasty warriors flare with light attacks, heavy attacks and select combo flourishes that vary on a character to character basis. You also have a limited selection of items and magical abilities as well as the ability to upgrade and level your existing repertoire. This title falls short however in that it is indeed a dynasty warriors title, expect TONS of repetition and long drawn out battles against AI that couldn't care less (even at the hardest of difficulty). That said, the combat is pretty fun and the different available characters all have pretty wildly different styles for you to master, Shiek for instance has a rather interesting "elemental" style which allows the player to attune themselves to different elements and unleash different attacks/combos for each one. The story that is told within is light but serviceable, fans of the legend of Zelda however should not go in expecting a fantasy epic sprawling countless hours. The title is worth renting if you are a fan of either of the represented franchises just don't expect to get an exceptionally large amount of play time out of this one (unless Dynasty Warriors is REALLY.. REALLY your thing.).

Better then what I expected
I had super low expectations for this game. When I first saw this game, I thought this was gonna be just a horrible thing. I use to play the Dynasty Warriors series growing up. The series grew bland and boring to me. Well I decided to get this game and try it out. I was surprised by how much fun this game was. I played it for a 6 hours straight. It was fun to see these characters play in a different way then what we are use to. Impa is a beast and Ganondorf is just as powerful as you think. If you are looking for a lot of unlockables and just a game worth your time. Pick this up.

nostalgia overload
I've always loved Zelda games and this one is just as much loved! It's such an interesting new take on the series yet it still is just as entertaining . I love unlocking all the characters, weapons, and coatumes. It brings all the Zelda stories together into one!

Destined For Greatness or Just Another Cash In?
Hyrule Warriors is obviously not your typical Zelda game. I would characterize it as a Dynasty Warriors game with Zelda characters and some Zelda elements to it. So, is this game worth it? Let's find out.

Story: Zelda wakes up from a nightmare, only to find out it has come true. She wakes up to see giant masses of enemies heading toward her castle, so she calls upon her knights (including Link) and fights back. Later on, we find out exactly why and how this has happened. A new antagonist "Cia" has been corrupted by the power of darkness and opens up portals from three dimensions (OOT, TP, and SS) that releases countless monsters.

Gameplay: Like I said before, this is not your typical Zelda game. It's basically a "beat-em-up" kind of game. If you're familiar with the gameplay of Dynasty Warriors, then you know exactly what I'm talking about here; if you're not familiar, we'll it doesn't take that much to figure it out. You're basically thrown into a Zelda-themed level with thousands, and thousands of enemies that are quick and easy to defeat. There are special ones known as "outpost captains" that are more stronger and smarter than typical enemies. There is also some Zelda elements, such as items that you need in order to defeat a boss.

Music: I personally think the music is just downright awesome. The music sounds so powerful and incredible. I at first thought Nintendo would just put in already made music, bit they they basically made their own music for it's

Graphics/Art style: I think the graphics hold up pretty well. The only time where it gets questionable is when you play with someone in co-op. The graphics get pretty downgraded, and there's frame rate issues, but it's nothing too serious that'd cause you to die.

Pros: Many characters to choose from
Fun gameplay
Decent graphics

Cons: Graphics get downgraded in co-op
Can get repetitive
No online co-op, just local

So, I give this game a 8.5.

Link's lovely ladies
Have you ever wanted to feel like the most powerful being in the universe but still be challenged? That's this game. It I'm sure it's still great if you haven't played a lot of Zelda, but if you have, this game is the ultimate homage to Zelda. Tons of references, familiar faces, and fan service. The good kind. Buy it if you can. Rent it if you can't buy it.
