Nothing special
I've been a fan of EAs NCAA Football franchise for a while now, and the release for the Xbox 360 is a fun game but doesn't live up to its predecessors.

From a visual standpoint, this is the best looking football game I've seen. The pre-snap and replay video sequences help to immerse you into the game. However, I found that the level of detail during actual gameplay can be distracting and make it difficult to focus on executing the play.

For those that enjoy the option run, you may find yourself disappointed as well. Since the 360 lacks the black and white buttons, but uses the left and right bumpers instead, I found that the controls for the option run are not as easy to master as they had been in the prior releases, and to successfully execute the option requires a fair amount of practice.

It seems to be a noticeable trend that franchise releases for the 360 have tended to leave out features that give gamers have grown to love. Unfortunately for fans of the NCAA franchise, this game is no exception. While none of the releases included the popular "Race For the Heismann" mode that was new in '06, the original Xbox and PS2 releases instead include the Campus Legend mode. Much to my disappointment, this mode seems to have been left out of the 360 release.

To fans of the Dynasty mode, you will not be disappointed. All the excitement and struggle of building a powerhouse dynasty and becoming a coaching legend are still intact in the 360 release.

Some of the features new to NCAA '07 are:

The "jump snap" button. This allows you to anticipate the snap and get ahead of the defensive line-if you time it right.

Momentum. Big plays, both offensively and defensively swing momentum towards and away from the direction of your team, effecting the fans, and players alike.

Kick system. Use of the right analog stick to direct and power kicks.

All around- a good game, but nothing outstanding. My recommendation:Rent it, but skip buying it, at least until next year.

NCAA 07 Great but lacking
NCAA football 07 is so far the best football game out in my opinion. It is the most realistic, and closest thing to college football I've ever seen. The game play is solid, and the sound is excellent. The lighting in the game is unbelievable. But my complaints with the game are small. For instants like they have create a player but it is so basic. You can't even chose how much muscle your character has. The attributes are more in depth which is great but, I wanted to give myself a black visor, gloves, and wrist bands. Your entire equipment is randomized. Also there is no race for the heisman mode. I loved the idea of it in NCAA 06 but it is missing in the Xbox 360 version. In dynasty mode there is no magazine anymore. I don't know about everyone else but I enjoyed that. Besides those little things the game is overall great in game play but feels like it took a step back in features almost like Madden 06 but it doesn't feel rushed. The game is great but lacking features that are in the ps2 and xbox version. Come on 360 we need those.

Good game, missing alot.
The graphics are good. the gameplay is great, the animations are nice. Yet there is no create a player or school. And my favorite feature is gone, i can no longer play on the same team as my friend. This is the only version that does not have the above. If all next gen means is a graphical upgrade than i want no part of it. The game is good nut the xbox version offers so much more.

Disappointing...
While this is a great college football sim, more was left out than was put in. First of all, the pregame warm-ups and post-game celebrations are gone and are replaced with an arcade-like start and end to every game which ruins the immersion factor.

Player creation is here, but with less customization options than previous installments. By the way, when you go to create a team, oh wait...that's gone too.

The game plays very well however, and the AI ramps up very well at higher difficulty settings. Nothing seems to be "broke" which is a very good achievement for an EA title.

The graphics and animations look great...but they're still not next gen. Sorry, but the cute little "pre snap" camera does not mean something is next gen. What it meant in this case, is that EA left out enough gameplay options to incorporate said cute little "pre-snap camera."

Basically, you're once again paying 60 bucks for a game with 1st generation xbox graphics. Do yourselves a favor and hold-out for madden 2007 next month. Madden is EAs' flagship football title and with the way 2006 ended up, they still need to validate their "exclusive NFL license." The moment of truth is near...

Why is this game rated so highly?
Why is this game rated so highly?

I'll agree that the graphics are incredible, and the player images are life-like. If that is the only thing that matters about a sports game, then NCAA Football 2007 is fantastic.

As for game play, this game is weak. Note:
1) After every single play there is an extended series of cut scenes. You have to watch the offense breaking the huddle. Then a close up of the QB. Then the RB. Then the line. This makes the game play very slow, takes forever for each play. After a few games this waiting gets really old.
2) It's too much offense and too little defense. You'll find the opposing receivers constantly open, behind your defensive backs. It's impossible to shut-down the passing game. You beat this game by lobbing the bomb and trying to outscore your opponent. Not very realistic.
3) Your kickers and punters must have broken leg bones, because they sure can't kick the ball very far.
4) The play selection menu stinks compared to previous versions of the game.
5) It's difficult to call hot routes for receivers.
6) It's next to impossible to put pressure on the opposing QB, who has all day to throw the ball. The only way to counter this is to blitz relentlessly, where you'll just end up giving up the big play.

If you like playing arena-league style football, throwing for the end zone from any point on the field, this game may be for you. If you think a football game should be all offense with insanely high scores (such as 70-55), then this game may be for you.

If you want a more realistic football sim ... not just the glitz and the fluff ... then you may find this game disappointing.

Amazing, loved it
This game is great. It completely revamps last years version. The running is much more realistic and you won't expect to just run 10 yards every play anymore, unless you actually are good with the new system. The dodges and jukes are much more realistic as are the tackles. The recievers nearly always catch the ball now which is great to have, since last year passing was a problem. The kicking game is terrible now, with both punts and field goals. You can't get any distance on them. But all around, with the new offense. I absolutely loved this game and recommend it very much.

Should Have Been Better
I have been looking forward to this game for many months now, and reading all of the hype surrounding it. So I was pretty disappointed to play the game and see that the XBOX version, though not as superior graphically to the 360, it plays so much better, and offers way more content than the 360 for a better price. I like playing the game, it is fun, I can say that. But no create a player really sucks, I never cared for create a school option, but that is missing as well. And no race for the Heisman or end of season player awards are missing as well.

So, rent the game, but I dont recommened buying it, not brand new anyway, wait a few months, and buy it in the bargain bin or from Gamefly, youll be glad you did.

NCAA transfers from USC to Oregon for 2007
In other words, the game has gone from national champion runner up, to an ok team that got beat by a mediocre Oklahoma team in a 2nd tier bowl game. Not what you'd expect from a game that didn't have the same kind of "launch deadline" excuse that Madden 06 on the 360 got away with.
Graphically the game is a mixed bag. They're not horrible, but still less than you'd expect from a next gen outing. (Although maybe it should be expected from EA) is pretty dissapointing when the camera pans around the stadium, but is acceptable during the actual play on the field.
The gameplay is solid enough. It's definitely an improvement over madden 06, but you will experience a bit of questionable AI every so often. However, it is exciting and definitely feels like the college game. Veterans will definitely find the Varsity setting a bit easy.
In what seems to be a continuing next gen trend for EA there are quite a few features missing that are in the current gen versions. So if you want to create your own school or become a "campus legend" you're going to have to wait until next season or maybe even the one after that.
Still, if you're a big college football fan, you'll definitely want to at least check this one out.
A Fine Simulation of College Football
First of all, the negatives. Other than a great playing football game, there aren't a lot of extras with this one. Dynasty is stripped down to a '98 version of NCAA football and there isn't any Heisman mode to speak of. That being said, it's still a great playing football game.

The graphics are fabulous in many spots, but I've experienced framerate performance issues in between plays that can be a little annoying at times. It doesn't affect gameplay any, just a little annoying that it stutters in between plays from time to time.

I have to say I miss the stadium pulse from last year's version. That really added to the atmosphere of the stadiums.

It's a great game to play while waiting for Madden 2007. I've had my share of great games so far. I have had the game freeze up with a minute left of a great game which I've seen has happened to others, but I'm used to these kinds of things happening from time to time in video games so I can live with it. I just hope it doesn't happen too often.

Another great rental for the 360. Only buy if you don't get Madden when it comes out. Otherwise I'd say rent it on your Gamefly while waiting for Madden. I'd give it higher than a 7 if there weren't some of the problems listed here. It's just hard to forgive some of the performance issues on such a powerful system.
