The Lost Planet has evolved, and gameplay has evolved along with it in this fast-paced action sequel. Ten years after the original Lost Planet, terra-forming has melted the icy surface of planet E.D.N. III, creating pockets of harsh desert and lush jungle. Thermal energy on the planet remains scarce, and the battle for control is more intense than ever. Create your own customized snow pirate and move through a dynamic storyline that evolves as you play through it. The Vital Suits you wear into battle have been given exciting new features, and you can now team up with friends in four-player squads to clear out objectives together.

Very fun, overlooked entertainment.
I have read the critic reviews of this game and just about the only thing I can agree with is "When bosses are big enough that you can go all Fantastic Voyage on their (arses) you know that the sense of scale is being set to 11." I'm guessing a reason of low review score has to do with the last game being just about the same. Since I haven't played the first one, I do not share their views.

This is one of those "have a blast" games that satisfies casuals and hardcores alike. There is PLENTY to unlock, the multiplayer is fantastic, especially because of the large scale maps with VS's, and, just like in Halo 3, "Easy difficulty" is another term meaning Movie mode. I have gone through the campaign on Easy with 3 other bots, and never died a single time. That was my first playthrough too. Just watching those huge Cat-G Akrid boss fights made my jaw drop. The visuals and environments are a amazing, and the way you take them down is even better. Like the quote above, you can enter inside of a boss, to attack it's vital organs. You even get this neat hookshot called the anchor. From what I have said it sounds as if the game plays itself, and it may at least once throughout the story, but crank up the difficulty and bit, and you'll realize that you have a collective amount of lives for your team called your "Battle Gauge", not to mention the valuable T-ENG (Thermal Energy) that is keeping you and your equipment alive and working. Once the difficulty is up, you will have to plan out every battle you ever engage in to prevent you or your teammates from losing. The best part of the whole game though, is the VS mechs. Once you enter these, you gain immense destructive power and versatility. They even have a laser lance you can use, at the cost of some T-ENG, to pierce through your enemies.

This game has gotten some bad reviews, and I ran out of space to type about the unlocking and customization systems, but at LEAST rent this game, because that's why you have Gamefly.

Really not that bad
I was very excited for this game, even though I never played the old one. After hearing what people said I was very nervouse but tis game rly isnt that bad..The graphics are amazing, and the gun fights are pretty engaging and fun. Ive played alotta videogames and the camera didnt rly bother me, a game like Ninja gaiden now that was a terrible camera. And that category G akrid on the train, idk why ppl are complaining, myself, 2 real players and one AI beat the akrid easiy first time, playing on normal difficulty. The AI actually did more to help me than my two dumb huan partners, he actually brought ammo to the huge gun while my dumb partners tried to shoot the akrid with their tiny guns..all in all..worth a rent..not that bad

MY ONLY GRIPES..this is a total co-op game, but theres no drop in drop outs during games? why woulda developer do this? Also losing and having to do everything over and watch the same cutscenes (cause apparently ppl on xbox live cant hit a) is a bother. all in all 7/10

The good, the bad, the ugly
Huge akrid enemies? Check. Plenty of replay value? Check. Great visuals? Check. Extra goodies and characters? Check.

Lost Planet 2 has alot going for it. It is a great game with a beefy campaign that can be played spit screen or online with Three other friends. The missions are graded, giving you a reason to replay sections to get that S rating. Mutliplayer is very beefy with plenty of options, charater customization as well as a ton of unlockables.

Visually stunning.
Classic LP controls with easy auto aim.
Plenty of customizationa and plenty of unlockable skins, parts, weapons, abilities.

Highly recommended.

This game deserves more credit than it gets.
I don't understand why this game got such bad reviews.

I fully expected upon renting this game for it to be boring and frustrating based off its based off the reviews but I was wrong.

Lost planet 2 despite what the critics say is a fun and enjoyable sequel to the first Lost Planet. Sure there are a few times when the game can be frustrating for example getting knocked off the edge of something and dieing (which will happen more than once) but this isnt the first game to encorporate this idea and it wont be the last. Every game has its flaws and that is a very minor one compared to some games. But in my opinion it was fun and the boss fights are epic which will make you want to never put the controler down and fight your way to the next one.

I dont write reviews very often as you can probably tell but i felt as though this game deserved some justice for all of the injustice it was dealt from prior reviews!

This game definitely deserves a rent, its fun and it will keep you enterained for hours!

Despite the critics..
I think this game is completely enjoyable. Given the campaign is a bit lackluster (which is to be expected of a Lost Planet game) the multiplayer (which is the only thing that should matter to fans of the original Lost Planet) is fantastic, in my opinion. One thing one has to realize is that Lost Planet 2 plays nothing like any other game (other than the predecessor, of course). If you can't accept that, this game will bring you nothing but frustration. I was pleased to see a multitude of characters, a slew of new online game modes, and a couple new VS's. This game is by no means a competitor to any of the more major games out there, but I think it's a nice getaway from games like Modern Warfare 2. In conclusion; WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING GAMESPOT, YOU TEAM OF FOOLS?! That is all.

Its actually NOT that bad.
I rented this game because i liked the demo, the Campaign is pretty fun solo get some nice gun fights here and there. Graphics in the game are pretty good, Soundtrack needs work though at times in the game there is no music playing at all not even in the middle of an intense gunfight on occaision. The campaign is not impossible to beat solo, not at all. its just the Chapter 3-3 Cat-G akrid is a REAL A-hole, once you beat him its all easy from there. (dont ask i have no idea why the level of difficulty was scaled so high just for that boss.) anyhow as noted the thing that makes this really fun is the multiplayer (this what most people by a shooter for nowadays right?)
but i'll say it now if you hated the first multiplayer you wont like this one its the same, if you did like it you'll find nothing has changed much so its easy to jump into. Now dont go into this game with the close minded thought of "this game is gonna suck" cause you wont be able to have fun that way. Its not Call of Duty or Halo, but if you try and scale all shooters up to their level, you're a close minded idiot.

This game was amazing
First of all Fook gamespot for the 5.5 and Fook the reviewers that couldnt get a grasp on this enjoyable game. The guns, the friends, the endless possibilities to replay and redo things with different set ups and equips. After every Cat. akrid kill there is that sense of accomplishment. people that couldnt get 4 player parties blame it on your walmart connection not the game. This games levels of re playability range very far. plus one of the smartest AI's ive had the pleasure to play with in a long time. So in other words dont take mine or anyone elses word for this game. Try it for yourself and see if you like it for yourself

Worth a try, especially if you loved the original.
I picked up LP2 because I loved the original. Lost Planet had some of the most unique multiplayer experience that I was hooked right away. The second game delivers more of the same, with some improvements and new modes.

My main problem with the multiplayer is that there are very few non-ranked matches. I have tried at a few different times of the day and spent about 5 minutes in the non-ranked match lobby by myself before I got bored and left. With that said, there is no shortage of ranked matches to play.

I loved the two throw-back maps that I got for preordering at GameStop (you can also download these as "Map Pack 1" - highly recommend if you enjoyed the maps on the original).

The Akrid Egg mode is a very interesting change from the original, and it adds a new dimension that enhances the multiplayer experience.

The solo campaign, however, is lacking. It is very clear that this game was built with co-op in mind, as the offline mode is severely lacking. I had problems getting over an A in solo mode simply because the AI sucks. Online, I rarely got less than an S in any chapter, and always got an S in the overall rank.

With that said, there isn't much reason to play by yourself. Just do like I did, and drop in on a game in progress that fits your needs, and you may make some new friends.

The graphics in the game are nothing to write home about during playtime, but the cutscenes are awesome, especially when some of the bigger Akrid bosses show up.

The soundtrack leaves a lot to be wanted, especially when compared to other games of the 3rd person shooter genre, such as Gears of War or Resident Evil.

Overall, I give the game an 8 out of 10. There are some minor flaws and bugs here or there (Such as the achievements sometimes not activating) , but I don't agree with the ratings that the major game review sites have been giving the game. If you liked the first one, pick it up! If you aren't sure, rent it first and give it a try!

Lost Planet 2
I thought this game was pretty awesome. It reminds me of a modern day Contra which all you old heads know was a game ahead of its time. Not saying this game is ahead of its time, but it is a fun, casual game that is perfect for playing the campaign mode with friends. I would not expect to enjoy multi player and I would not suggest playing unless you have at least 1 other human on board ;)

The Game is GREAT!
If you liked LP1 you'll love LP2. The story is great and the missions are fun along with a challenge. Some may think a few of the missions are a bit short and I agree but at the same time they a great time to play.
