This game is not a blast, it's a dud.
Remember, kiddies, when you have a volcano eruption, all you have to do is grab your dinosaur friends, a elephant with an afro, and head up to the edge of the volcano. Once there, you can shoot rocks into the volcano to stop the eruption.
Hold it - I know this game isn’t meant to be taken as fact, but Rock Blast’s formation has many holes in it. Here, you have to stop an eruption of colored stones by matching three rocks of the same color.
Here’s the set up: at the top of the game board are the two cave kids and a cannon that shoots rocks. From beneath the lava rises more rocks. You have to shoot the rocks in the cannon to make groups of three or more - and they vanish like magic.
Okay, this game can still be fun if the level design and power ups were inventive. But they’re not.
Almost every mode plays out the same (the exception being Puzzle Mode) See rocks rise, shoot rocks to match three of a color, and repeat until you beat the level. The bland presentation and graphics made this game dull after about ten levels.
The power ups are nothing new - there’s the exploding bombs and fireballs, the temporary freezing of the rocks and vertical bolts of lightning
But the biggest problem is the motion sensitive controls; they’re just too sensitive; the slightest tilt threw off my aim, and the margin of error is not very big. I would rather turn them off and use the control pad, 1, and 2 buttons to get the job done.
For those of us who are die hard fans of this type of game, you should go out and try it. But the rest of us can give Rock Blast a pass. SKIP IT.
