This first-person, survival-horror stealth game takes the Alien franchise back to its inception. Like the first Alien movie, this one is heavy on dread, horror, and dark corridors. You play as Amanda, whose investigation of Ripley's disappearance is interrupted by the slimy, acid-blooded Alien that murdered the crew of Ripley's vessel. Alien: Isolation is all about a head-to-head battle of wits with the creature, and the AI shows it. The Alien hunts the player through sound, sight, and smell, and its reactions are clever enough that you'll swear it's actually alive. The AI "learns" through your actions, at the same time you learn how the Aliens behaves. The levels are non-linear, with multiple routes and randomized placement of objects, so players can enjoy a different terrifying experience every time they play.

decent game
decent game, just expect to die, you will, over and over, part of the learning curve.

Dizzy and Slow
Would have liked to see what the game had to offer but the first person view made me dizzy and nauseous, mostly because of how the view doesn't turn quickly while running. It made the view stiff. Additionally, as mentioned in the other reviews finding your way around the ship is tedious in the beginning. While this may be accurate to a real-life type of situation it gets boring really fast in game. If the developers at least put some hints in about where to go it would have probably kept me interested. I would have at least gotten through enough of the game to want to finish it.

Just play it on PS4 or Xbox One
The game was obviously made for current gen, and it was quite buggy on ps3

Great, but could have been better.
I enjoyed this game, but quickly became irking.

This is the first time I can say that they copied Scott's Alien fear and duplicated how they thought the future would look like in the '79 film down to a T.

The fear and desperation made this game addictive. Hide? Run?

But then it became frustrating.

No check points, and saves are few and far between. I'll enter a whole new area, get killed, and have to start way back where I saved. yes, it made the game that much more terrifying, but quickly got irritating. You play the same level over and over and you are quickly no longer immersed in the environment. Androids are no longer evil robots who are to keep control, but rather irritating AI who knows where you are. The Alien is no longer a hunter, but a AI on looping patrol who is always in the same area as you.

More fear is created if you create safe areas, Instead their is always a threat or two in the area. too an extent this is great. Then you create an alarm to escape and told to run and you dodge the Androids, humans, but then watch out; Drooling ceiling you can't see is where the alien will just grab you for an instant kill even though you are sprinting.

You end up crouching the entire game, because the alien, who somehow is in the same exact part of the ship as you are all the time; is in the ceiling and will attack at the slightest noise. The humans are on patrol walking around shoot at me and the alien will attack me?

Attempts to outsmart the enemy are creative and neat, but are pretty much useless. Since they automatically know where you are.

Lastly, no jumpscares? Yes they are lame and attempt to create cheap thrills, but are great when you are afraid of the environment.

Changing the difficulty has little to know effect on the difficulty. Since everything is instant kill.

Great game overall, but a few major tweaks would have made it much better.

Alien:Isolation is AMAZING!
When I started the game I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't sure if it would live up to the hype but MAN IT DID!
The game gives you a constant anxiety and under pressure feeling throughout the game as if you are really there.
I was immersed immediately.
From start to finish I held on till the very end, and the game did not let up.
I aim to buy this game and if they make another, I will definitely play that too...
AMAZING GAME!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Almost A Legendary Game...
...but so many missed story opportunities and lazy stealth mechanics made this merely a good game.

In a good stealth game, you MUST give the player the feeling that when they are detected and killed, it was his or her own fault, and that they can improve on the next attempt.

In Alien: Isolation, there are a pitiful few things one can do to avoid detection, and even fewer to avoid death once you are spotted. This makes for a very frustrating experience, and sometimes you have to get through a level on sheer luck. That is never good game design.

Loads of fun!
Awesome! This was a great ride right up until, but not including, the ending. No spoilers, but dang... The ending did not stop me from enjoying the game completely just made me say... HUH?

Hide..
I am a fan of Alien movies. Alien: Isolation has a great atmosphere, mechanics, and story. It is very scary at first, but the longer you play the more tools you have to use against your enemies, that make you feel less helpless. I would definitely suggest trying this game out, playing it at night in good headphones. 8/10

Good plot, good controls, keeps you interested
First off, I have not yet completed this game and this review is entirely spoiler free.
This game has amazing graphics and a very impressive AI system. The game is very long and it is sometimes confusing what you need to do to complete your objective. Also, its a lot harder to wander around trying to figure out what to do when the alien is hunting you. Take the term hunting literally here, because I have spent my fair share of this game hiding in lockers and under desks. However, the game keeps your heart rate up and constantly surprises you as the alien learns how you act and evade it. So you can die, respawn, and play the same level with the alien reacting a different way each time. Hide in the lockers to often? Eventually the alien will do more thorough searches of the locker . Very found of using noisemakers to distract the alien? Eventually it will learn what those are and go looking for you instead. You have to develop as the alien develops, leading it to be an immersive experience.Controls are easy to learn, might seem like a lot at first but you will quickly figure out what everything is and adapt to it. Novice level is still challenging so I would start there and make it harder if the game is too easy. Expect to die, a lot.

Terrifyingly awesome
this is the review to set the record straight, if you are the person that plays COD all day and doesn't like a challenge, you'll hate this game. now that that's out of the way, this game is amazing. I've never seen any of the movies but my friends have, and according to them, the game gets everything straight as far as the universe goes, and that's awesome. the game is good about getting you familiar with the locations and the characters and that's always a plus with me. secondly, whoever says that the alien is cheap and that your screwed when it sees you clearly sucks at the game. my friend and I got seen by the alien a dozen times and yes we died, but we also got away half the time with the games amazing use of craftable items. Alien sticking around one area? throw a noisemaker and he'll follow it away from where you need to go. Alien sees you but you have no room to run? use a smoke bomb to obscure his vision and find a hiding place. ive done all these and more on HARD difficulty, which is terrifying btw. being my first horror survival game I suck and die a lot. but I never felt like I died because of the game, it was because I was making too much noise or I was sticking my head out too long etc. the alien is pretty much never guaranteed to kill you so long as you use items, but he will kill you most of the time. I recommend for newer players to start the game on medium difficulty and once you get the hang of things switch to hard. everything else about the game, graphics, sound, plot, characters and all that are absolutely astounding. don't be thrown off by rage-quitting twelve year olds, this game is awesome, but hard. I think its mostly because of how few save points their are, but ive never lost more than thirty minutes of progress, but maybe that's just me. for alien fans, this is a must buy, and for everyone else you absolutely must give this game a try, you wont regret it.
