There's something not-of-this-world in the U.S. Government's super top-secret facility, Area 51. As bio-hazard specialist Ethan Cole you are sent in to investigate. Discovering alien creatures and a virus that has the potential to wipe out humanity, Cole finds that Area 51 lives up to its infamous name. But the name Area 51 is just a sign-post for a much deeper, inventive conspiracy thriller. Featuring eight massive levels, online multiplayer modes, creature designs by Stan Winston Studios, and a wicked story, Area 51 lives up to its name.

If you are running out of shooters to play on XBOX
This is not the best FPS you can rent for the Xbox. Having said that, it still isn't half bad. The array of weapons is pretty standard. The visuals are nice, but hardly breathtaking. The voice casting is well done, but I guess that depends on if you like David Duchovny(at his monotone best here). I think the most outstanding thing about this game is the amount of thought that went into it. It has a fairly developed story line and some of the specifics are pretty witty, especially if you are an alien conspiracy theory aficionado. For example, at one point you find, and battle, in the studio where they faked the Apollo moon landings. Funny stuff, For a rental it was alright. It's no Halo, or even Doom 3, but it was okay. As has been mentioned in other reviews you can expect to spend a bit of time repeating stages between check points, the learning curb ramps up steeply later in the game, and some of the cut scenes are unskipable(grrrr...)but I enjoyed it. Check it out(after you've played Halo, Halo 2, Far Cry, Halflife 2, Doom 3, maybe even Darkwatch.).

Intense Prophecy story line
Hands down one of the best story lines in a video game. Good guns, good graphics, good game play. One cut scene is amazing where your squad mates meet face to face with a Theta a big, BIG, big alien. One of the coolest features is when you come up from an elevator and come on what seems like the moon but it has the nineteen sixtey-nine landing on the moon. Good game only downside is how you can dual wield shotguns, machine guns, etc. but not I repeat NOT double pistols.

Could be SO much better.
There are no complaints about the physics, weapons or story line of this game. My problem is with the lack of the ability to save your progress at any time and the unbelievably long stretches between check points. If a game is going to be filled with numerous boss fights that have to be played in just the right sequence, I should not be forced into having to repeat the preceding 15 or 20 minutes of the last checkpoint save to get to it again. But then again, this is the same complaint I have for any game that does not allow for saves at my discretion (Call of Catulu, Crimson Sky's, etc). So if you don't mind slamming your controller across the floor a few dozen times followed by a string of profanities, get this game, because otherwise it's great.

Arguably one of the best games
Area 51 gave me a good idea of what to expect from next gen. slick graphics, great sound and lighting, and tight controls. However, at some points in time, the game gets repetitive. The same weapons are used in most of the game and other ones come in much later. Much as I'd like to say this is a great game, and it is, Area 51 needed to have a little more variety in the plot. In all, Area 51 is a good game for rental and maybe one to own.

Exactly What I Expected
Area 51 is an FPS among a console of many. It tells the story about, of course, a strange occurrence at Area 51 with aliens and humans and mutants. The game has good graphics and weapons, along with some nice voiceovers. There were times when I got frustrated at an occasional boss fight or when I couldn't find some health. But after awhile you will get the ability to turn mutant whenever you want, so if you're low on health that comes in handy. There were also some control issues, like pressing the B button for grenades. Overall there is some good and some bad, again it was just as I expected. I give it a 7, out of 10.

um....messed up controls....
the game is really fun but the controls are messed up. the way when you move the R thumbstick down the camera goes up and you move the R thumbstick up the camera goes down. i don`t know if it`s good for buying but you should rent it. but if you like games like House Of The Dead or Resident Evil, then you might like this game. i 76% recommend it.

Halo2/Doom3 ripoff
Could ave been alot better. Looked like a cheap Doom3/Halo2 ripoff. Lousy controls. No was to adjust look sensitivity or customize controls was the main downfall for me. Played it for about a half hour before wanting to smash it. Since it belonged to gamefly I had to send it back instead. Avoid this game like an alien whiped his bum with it.
