One hunt not worth your time
Deer Drive Legends is Exhibit A on why the Wii should’ve gone out of business when it did. This game felt like it was thrown together just to get a buck from players who enjoy hunting games.
What’s wrong with Deer Drive Legends? First off, there are no in game instructions to tell us which button to push to quit out to the main menu. And the game tells us to use the scope, but it doesn’t show how.
But that’s no problem – the game’s doesn’t provide much of a challenge. For most of the 60 levels in the game, you’ll be shooting certain animals with a certain gun in a certain fashion (or not – some levels have you not shoot a certain animal at all.)
But the gameplay just repeats itself over and over again – even the four boss battles are just two battles repeated twice. Getting through this game will take less than three hours, which is very short.
Which is why they try to pad out the material by putting in a Hard mode – which is just more of the same bland gameplay.
The graphics are blurry and weak and yet the game can’t run smoothly. Many times when I was panning to find a target, the scenery would jerk about or freeze up for a split second.
The game makers claim that the game has the “Earth’s most elusive beasts”, but that’s not the case. Some of the animals – like the lion and the bear – charge right at you – and the game marks them so you can see them coming from a long way away. And all the other animals run in a set path over and over again, not reacting at all to your shots - the opposite of elusive.
And they say there are over 30 kinds of animals in the game, but in truth, there are only 26. Oops.
The guns are almost the same, and I felt like I was firing one type of gun with different size of bullet capacity (from one bullet to three to five). Not the arsenal you get in any other hunting game.
Hopefully, we won’t see a cheap, shoddy, archaic game like this on the WiiU. Deer Drive Legends is a candidate for my list of the WORST WII GAMES OF
