Another Sequel Can Not Top Originals
Being an avid Silent Hill fan, I was stoked when this title first came out. Good and bad news...first the good. The graphics and sound are awesome, truly great. The atmosphere that this game creates in order to really experience the mood and environment is better than any I have seen, next to only a handful of others (Halo and Indigo Prophecy are just a few to excel at creating mood and include you as if you were there). The bad news is...the game doesn't sustain the intensity that it initially sets up and actually becomes rather...well boring. About half way through I couldn't find/figure what I needed to do to keep proceeding and it got to the point that I actually didn't care. Silent Hill 2 sustained it's atmosphere, intensity, mood, and desire to see what's around the next corner throughout the ENTIRE game. Silent Hill 4 loses major points for that.

Slowly going down hill...
Excuse my above pun, but the Silent Hill games have progressively gotten less disturbing. The original Silent Hill was a genre reineventing, creepy masterpiece. Silent Hill 4 is quick to turn on the creeps but doesn't really build or even stay consistent in it's scariness.

The many different "worlds" was a new approach that just doesn't pan out. However, the biggest difference is the inclusion of a first person view while in the MC's apartment. Seeing through a character in a SH games eye's really multiplies the creep factor and adds a "you're there" feeling. I wouldn't mind seeing that or some variation in future SH games.

Graphics and sound are all top notch. Controls and combat are a little better than previous games but nothing to get excited about.

Overall, if you like Silent Hill games or even if you're a little interested, give this one a try but don't expect to be blown away.

Disapointing
This game isnt like the other 3 the previous games had more freedom to roam and find you enemies but not in this game.

There 2nd best game!
This is there 2nd best game (SH2 was their best). Even if you don't play games; I suggest it for anyone who likes scary "hair standing up on the back of your neck" experiences.

The end's a little sketchy and the game play is tricky, but it's a good game!

not so good
i was hanging out at my friends late at night and we went to hollywoo vid. and looked at games. i suggested we get half life 2.but i was out voted 2 to 1.so we ended up getting this.

it has some good features. it has pretty good graphics and a really good concept. but they didnt deliver. it waas rediculously confusing and not at all scary. we were trying to scare each other but that failed in that concept. and last but not least the monsters and creatures were un imaginateive. i mean we quit playing as sood as we made it into the train. complete waste of time.

Frustrating
The puzzles wrap tightly around the story's pyscho-context, and the levels never spread into the excess of earlier entries. That's what makes the turn back into earlier maps to flesh out the story so frustrating. Missed opportunity, misunderstood genius.

AWESOME
This game was wicked sweet. The music complimented the mood of the game along with the gloomy/scary graphics of the game. I played this game during the day, considering I couldn't play much at night because of work, and it was still scary. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I'd have to say if you're looking for a game that'll scare you to death...this game is totally for you.

Not-so silent hill!
Well i must admit i have never played any of the other silent hill games, so i can't actualy compare this to any of its predecesors. To the silent hill die-hard fans, please bare with me. This game is not fun. The main reason i kept playing it was to see what happens next. Thats one of the only reasons this game does not fall flat on its face. Good storyline mixed with a very creepy atmosphere sounds like a good idea, but the gameplay seems to bring it down to a barely avarage title. witch left me fairly dissapointed, considering that i was expecting a lot from this title. the main reason the gameplay flops, is that the camera has a mind of its own, and the controls feel like they were thrown together at the last minute.

Well this game wasn't originally designed as a silent hill game,
its not a good game aviod it unless u have a taste for dissapointment.

Very boring game not originally a silent hill game
This game was extremely boring and somewhat confusing. There seemed to be no purpose as to what the character was doing. I should have known it would suck when I heard it wasnt even originally a silent hill game. It's a cheap ripoff of a real silent hill game and anybody who gets scared playing this game is ridiculous. I've seen scarier things changing my sons diaper. Do yourself a favor and dont waste your time on this title.

really bad compared to the others
The plusses....another great mysterious storyline tied in with the previous storys. Really cool idea for the game.

The bad, well its HORRIBLY frustrating. You dont have the sense of freedom to explore like the others...gathering items and discovering the storyline and puzzles, because your enemys are annoying and relentless, constantly in your way, without enough ways to deal with them effectively. Overall, the gameplay that I (and most other SH players) would normally enjoy (exploring, discovering storyline, atmoshpere) was ALWAYS interupted by a horrible combat system and the most frustrating enemys ive ever dealt with in ANY game, also the fact that you arent (IMO) given adaquete or enough ways deal with them effectively. On top of that there were virtually NO PUZZLES. The last negative, which I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea... is how you play each area of the game twice....stupid and boring idea.

I was really mad about this game because the storyline was still amazing, and tied in to most of the other SH games, but I was too frustrated to finish nor do I think it would have even been possible, really....I cant spoil anything but I was at a point where I had low HP, no way to heal, no way to dispatch my enemys, and its impossible to simply run by them all with low HP, I tried over and over again, guides, different strategys.....no way to continue the game, no way to lower the difficulty....no way to proceed.

So I was very upset that I couldnt finish this game and was too frustrated to try over and over and over and over again until i hit some stroke of luck that may not have come, which sucks cause I REALLY wanted to finish the story and see how it all turned out....im really really mad about that, and there will probably be references in the other games that I wont understand now.

My suggestion is dont play this on normal and dont even think about hard, play it on easy so you can actually experience the game like it should be.
