Sly is Fly
The first entry in the Sly series of games, The Thievius Racoonus is a decent platformer with humorous writing, making me want to play the rest of the series.

Has some shortcomings, but nevertheless superb.
Sly Cooper isn't a 100% great game. It has some minor flaws (short length, genuinely easy), but it's a fun and unique addition the the PS2's library. It's swift, extravagant, and the exact opposite of dull. It works not only as a fine platformer, but as a good source of eye candy. The slick, cartoon-style graphics look superlative, especially for a game made in 2002 (so-so early in the PS2 years). I recommend Sly Cooper and the Thevius Racoonus to anyone who likes a short and cheery game, and eye candy. This game is especially good for newcomers to platformers.

8.9
Graphics - 9.6
Gameplay - 8.5
Sound - 7.9

Beginning of a great PS2 platformer series
I'm a huge PS2 platformer fan, games like Sly, Jak&Daxter, and Ratchet&Clank really get me excited. Having played the entire Ratchet PS2 series (and working on the PS3 titles), I decided to give Sly a try, and see if it could match Ratchet.

Sadly, when comparing Ratchet 1 and Sly 1, Ratchet wins easily, and here's why. Sly 1 took at least a 1/5th of the time as Ratchet 1. The fact that one hit from an enemy means death gets VERY annoying. The plot is not nearly as good as Ratchet, doesn't pull me in, wanting more. Also very repetitive, the same formula for each boss, with a few tweaks in between. Sly also makes less use of checkpoints, which gets especially annoying having to repeat long and easy sequences. Sly 1 is also missing something Ratchet 1 had, which was multiple weapons.

Sly 1 does have a few things Ratchet 1 doesn't have, which is tougher, and more challenging platforming sequences, an ability to stealthly take out enemies, and disappear into the night again, and a mildly interesting love interest.

great game that has flaws....
This is a good game. It was simple for my 5 year old cousin to understand. There are a few bad things however. Although this game does not have a negative image, it makes little kids want to play with grandpa's cane (since the main weapon is a cane). Another flaw is the fact that some of the mini worlds are too hard, such as the racing in two of the worlds. I had a hard time (after about 50 tries i finally got it). Another thing that is tricky: the security systems, although they add a little suspense to the game, nobody under 10 would be able to understand how to dodge all of the security lines, and most kids go into the security system (some of them are spotlights; in the kid's mind that is a way to be a star and go there only to start the level all over again). This game also has a lot of action which is good for some people, some worlds are easy while others take practice. A word of advice, ALWAYS get the clues, they help you later on!

good like the rest of them
i love this game. i only got it today, and already i love it like i loved the others. it's sweet because you mostly have free roam, and you can play as other characters besides sly, even though sly is my favorite. i'm just stuck on the canal chase level, but i'm getting close so we'll see. the two player mode is kind of boring, but the main game is awesome.

Worst of the Series
Sure, it's fun. Sly's cute and all. But does it have what it takes to be the best platformer? No...
