Ascension City is rocked by a terrorist attack, its buildings reduced to rubble, and its air defenses left in enemy hands. Spencer, otherwise known as the Bionic Commando, is called into action. Enhanced with a bionic arm and packing some serious firepower, it's up to you to save the city. Use your bionic arm to swing between towering heights at dizzying speed, blasting enemies as you go. Or better yet, save the ammo and use your arm to crush them with objects, toss them into the air, and rip the environment to shreds!

Just Couldn't Get Into It
Bionic Commando is an okay game. It was fun to swing around with the arm, but that's all that it really has going for it. I didn't even finish the game because some parts are just really annoying. For instance, when you die they make you start at checkpoints further away from where you die. So that means you have to redo a bunch of parts before you get back to where you were before you die. It just gets annoying and frustrating and it doesn't make me really want to go back and do things all over again. It's worth checking out for a few days though, but a waste of time trying to finish it. There are a lot better games out there.

It's OK, just not my style of game
I played the original Bionic Commando and it was always cool. With this new and improved version, love the look of it, but gameplay isn't the best to me. Little things bugged me, like not being able to grapple anything at anytime, when I know the arm could reach what I was trying to grapple. And the lack of ammo given is ridiculous. I gave up on the board where you had to get to the crash recon site and everything is pretty much underwater. You had to go halfway across the board, trying to avoid sniper fire, JUST to get a sniper rifle. Then once you do, you had to fight one of those biotech robots on a broken highway surrounded my water. NO WAY!!!! When I fought the first two on that one area, I needed all that space to maneuver to get behind them to attack. Threw the game back in the envelope and shipped out.

Too Repetitive
The graphics aren't that bad, it was what you come to expect from the BC franchise actually. But the excessive swinging around on the same level over and over again is VERY annoying, to say the least.
If you ever do get to the end of the game, it just locks up anyways, so why bother. Yea, I'm a true believer if you start a game and get past the first 3-5 levels, then why not just finish it. Obviously could not finish the game because of the lock up when ya do get to the end.
As everyone else points out though, this game WAS a great game on the NES, til it came to the next-gen system's that is.
To be honest I do not think the majority of the people that gave this a bad rating, actually played the game, otherwise those people would have seen the actual playability of it. Every game on the market has its bad points, wether ya wish to admit it or not. It is just those games that you loved as a child that you expect to be better on the next-gen system's. Had high hopes on this one myself, hopefully another gaming company gets ahold of the game franchise and actually makes a second to this game, a BETTER BC instead of this crud.

Bionic Commando
As someone who played the original Bionic Commando on the NES I can say wholeheartedly that this game does it justice on the next gen consoles. Initially it was pretty difficult to get the swing/release motion down just right but after a couple hours it became pretty much second nature. The graphics are fantastic, the environments well lit/populated. I would really like to have had some tougher major bosses to beat but overall I really enjoyed the rental. I would have been bummed had I actually purchased the game but it's definitely a must have rental.

Give it a try
At first we were not too shure about it, but as we perfected our skill we came to love it. Dont judge the game on the training area. It isnt an easy game. It is very challenging and fast paced. Its hard to perfect the grapple hook. After a while you can really get into the hang of it. It will be hard getting used to a new FPS without it. There are some really hard points in the game that take alot of patience to get through. Graphics are great. Weapons are cool. It has enough gore to keep me interested. It has the death quiver game glitch that we have come to love. YOU DONT WONT TO MISS THIS GAME. IT TAKES YOU IN A NEW DIRECTION FROM YOUR ORDINARY FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS. THE ONLY THING WE DIDNT LIKE ABOUT IT WAS THE SAVES ARE TOO FAR APART.

Am I the only one here who loves BC?
Loved the NES game, when I heard of a remastered version coming out I almost died. When this sequel was announced I needed it!
I see why some people might not like the game, many called it "Spiderman with guns". However I think people really underrate this game so much that it turns off many people before they play it and once they play it they aren't truly into playing it for what it is. A very fun and throw back-like game.
To me it was fun to finally try the swinging arm in a 3rd dimension space. The sound of the wind as you swing rapidly and the physics involved were just amazing.
Not a difficult game to master even though you have to have perfect timing sometimes; but you don't have to be perfect all the time. The bionic arm is not only for swinging around; the game designers thought of other uses for it too. Reaching for weapons and ammo, grabbing enemies to pound on them, and even to pull yourself towards any kind or surface.
The weapons were your standard shooting game weapons, however they did have the BC twist, the aiming was the only thing that put me a little off at the beginning. There was no option to change aim from right to left, even though it would be an easy fix with or without the bionic arm all you need to be able to do is move the camera angle! This is the only thing that made me real angry because it was such an easy fix. However at the same time it made me more aware and connected to the character knowing that he really only has one arm.
The story is not bad and there are plenty of throw back moments that would make a BC fan giddy. I really do hope that at some moment Capcom decides to release a sequel to the next gen version.

A Tedious Imitator
I was a huge fan of the original Bionic Commando, if only because there was such freedom and momentum from swinging all over the place without having to worry about tactics. That freedom is revoked in this game; you have the power to swing from any object, but enemies are placed to ensure that you don't exercise this freedom, at least not without dying. Lethal, unmarked radiation zones strictly enforce a linear mission area, as well as the fact that your super-soldier will drown in two feet of water. Granted, flinging cars into people is a great game mechanic, but after three levels of grinding through completely one-directional missions and some of the most utterly tedious boss fights I've ever seen, I'm sending this fecal water slide back.

Stick with ReArmed
Want a Bionic Commando game? Stick with the remake of the old NES title, ReArmed, or just play the old NES game itself. This new installment is sub-par at best and atrocious at worst.

The story is intriguing at least, but the shoddy gameplay mechanics make playing through this title a chore. You're Nathan "Radd" Spencer, hero from the first game. After you rescued Super Joe and defeated the Imperials you were imprisons not made instantly clear. The world hates bionics like Spencer, but as soon as the stuff hits the fan guess what they do? That's right! They call on him to save the day.

The best part of the previous game is the swinging mechanics. In this version you'll either get the hang of it and deal with it or get instantly frustrated. There's a definite timing to swinging and it can be hard to aim where you're jumping. If you don't release the button at the exact right time you'll get next to no momentum in your swing, meaning you'll plunge to your doom. The game looks like it's got an open world, but this is a trick. There is basically one path and every other route is blocked with invisible walls of irradiated doom.

The game taunts you by showing you lots of cool moves in the opening tutorial, but none of these are unlocked until later in the game. The beginning of the game drags since you have little offense and only one or two ways to attack the multiple opponents that will ambush you.

Overall, the swinging mechanic is clumsy, the world is restrictive, combat is unsatisfying until later in the game and the only redeeming aspect is the story. By all means, go with the remake if you want a good Bionic Commando game.

Skip this.

Good
+Story
+Solid voice acting

Bad
-Clumsy swinging
-Poor combat
-Restrictive world
-Some bugs

Pretty good!
I thought it was challenging, fun and interesting. I am very picky about the games that I will spend my time on and this one kept me entertained and engaged.

The biggest set back was that it had to load each time you died. I have noticed other games that you instantly start over without loading, such as "Infamous" and because this is such a challenging game, most players will spend more time on loading screens than they would like.

Bionic Commando
This rental was all about nostalgia, and I found the game to be sorely lacking. The game itself is pretty, and from what I did the storyline was soso at best. The nail in the coffin is that they took a great concept and overcomplicated it. This game was basically Spiderman 3 put into a different package with almost no replay value.
