Dangerous...ly short
Special Edition? What’s that supposed to mean in this game? I have no idea.
This game has two modes in it - Story Mode and Gallery Mode.
In the Story Mode, you play as a hunter out on a hunt with his father and brother. Things go wrong, the brother is mauled by wolves, and father and surviving son don’t get along very well.
Soon after they are reunited to look into why a bunch of animals are killing just for fun - and to put a stop to it.
This doesn’t feel like a standard hunt, it’s more like aliens taking over the world - with animals taking the role as aliens. This will turn off anyone looking for the average hunting experience like in the other games in the franchise.
But there are a good selection of weapons and animals for you to kill. The Hunter vision adds a nice visual touch to the experience - threatening animals glow brightly, making it easy for you to spot it and kill it. You can also find hidden items, guns and ammunition as well But for some reason, you guy slows way down while he is using that vision - something that annoyed me.
Another problem in Story Mode is that it’s short - four to five hours for most players to finish. After that, there’s little reason to give it another go.
And there’s no level select after you finish a game; if you want to get all the goodies from a level, you will have to play all the proceeding levels as well.
But that’s much better than the on rails shooting experience that is shown in Gallery Mode. Here up to four players wander about a preset path shooting all sorts of animals (mostly wolves, lionesses, and baboons). It doesn’t matter which of the three mini games I pick (Survival, Trek, and Classic), or which of the many locations within each mini game I pick, the experience is just the same. I would’ve liked to see this tossed for a longer Story Mode.
Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2011 Special Edition has a unique take the genre, but it doesn’t provide enough material for me to pay $40 for. RENT IT.

too short and easy
i got this game for christmas and beat it that night. the story is hard to follow i had know idea what was going on. it is basicly it is like dangerous hunts 2 and 2009 . graphics are great but something i noticed is that it takes the same amount of power to kill hyenas and wolves.there are shooting galleries and are pretty fun but easy to unlock. you get to hunt other animals through the whole game but no bying your gun and tags hunting still fun but gets old

It's about time
By far the best Cabella's game to date, i enjoyed the other Cabella games because i like the whole concept of hunting games, but this one by far exceeds any other hunting game i have played. I like the fact that you are the Hunter and the Hunted all at once. There is excitement with every turn and i like that kinda suspense. Will definetly buy it once the price goes down a little more
