Captured, conveniently forgotten, tortured, and left for dead, MI6 agent Andrew Sterling awaits execution in a Chinese prison. The story begins when a mysterious friend from his past rescues him, setting off a chain of events that could rock the very foundations of global security and wreak chaos on a worldwide level. Cold Winter features a deep story line set in a dark world of international intrigue, spanning three linked story threads and 15 levels in eight beautiful and gritty environments, including Chinese prison, Egypt, North Korea, Hong Kong, and more.

Surprisingly Addictive
I heard of this game right before it's release but was turned off by it cancellation on Xbox.
Well, I found it for like $5 at Blockbuster so I blew the dust off my PS2 and popped it in.

The first thing that stands out is the graphics which would have the best looks of any N64 game out there except it's not a N64 game. I still play the original Perfect Dark religously so I'm not a graphics monkey. They get the job done.

The story is fairly detailed which is surprising for any first person shooter that's not named Half Life or Halo. However, the relative short length of the game brings the story to an abrupt end.

The gameplay, which is the only reason to play a game, is finger twitchingly exciting. The A.I. is a very, VERY good shot which adds a strategy aspect to every encounter. The realistic gore, missing from most FPS, was enough to hook me. Every wound squirts a stream of blood. Heavier weapons remove limbs completely. Eat your heart out Soldier of Fortune. The weapons selection is everything you could ask for in modern day gunplay.

The sound effects, although somewhat stratchy and less polished, are great. The guns sounds are feral and the body hits are superb. Multiplayer is a blast, although the number of bots is limited they're definitely welcome since most games don't have them.

Rent this game. It was sadly overlooked and really deserves a playthrough.

Awesome Shooter
The PS2 doesnt really have many great shooter games but Cold Winter really is backed up with some great stuff. The graphics were not terrible and it had a good story to go with the game. You start in China in prison so the start is really good and you get in to the game pretty fast. The cut scens are pretty good also. In fact I thought the game was so good I played it twice! The Multiplayer is OK, but its not perfect. The story is awesome though. I liked the blood and gore. The weopons were cool too. All in All Cold Winter shold get 5 gory stars out of 5.

coldwinter review
This shooter stood up well next to other shooters on the ps2. The gameplay is a little hard to catch on to at first, but once you get going it involves you more in the overall game than other shooters, reminds me alot of halflife. Way too many cut scenes! Interesting locations.

good game
Cold Winter is in my opinion one of the better first person shooter games out there today, compairing the COD and MOH games because it's longer and you can actually get lost in this game. The only thing I think could be improved is the difficulty. It was a very easy game. Once you've died the first time in an area, the enemy is always in the same places. Like most other games i'm sure it will improve as more games come out

Fun
This is a fun bloody, and gory game. You can just really ruin your enemy's in this game. The blood and gore looks pretty real. And not to mention the cutscenes are very good, and violent too. The storyline is very good, also the story that surrounds the old man in the game. The game doesent have much character development, but you will enjoy this fun, bloody game.

surprisingly fun
If you have played any other fps, chanses are you played a better one than this. But if you have an open mind than this game could be fun. ther's a hy enfisis on interaction. things from dead bodys to toilets can be interacted with. the story is kind of lame and the puzzls arnt vary chalenging(if you dont inclued the fact that you arnt always sure what in gods name you are doing). the game is still cind of fun. Agen there are better games out there, but if you have time to kill and have alredy gotten tired of Black, than by all means rent this game

Cold Winter
Cold Winter was a game I never heard of. Whenever I saw this game I thought it looks like another first person shooter. It didn't look like a great game. But you haven to remember the saying, don't judge a book by it's cover. So I tried the game and I have to say it was a really fun game. There aren't alot of games where you can shoot the limbs of an enemy's body. The game is very violent, but it has alot of fun in it. Although the game turned out to be kind of short. The graphics are decent and there are alot of weapons to use, and if there is one thing I love in a game it's unlimited health packs. So if you happen to come across a game called Cold Winter, you should try it out.
