In Detective Pikachu, you are Tim Goodman, and you're searching for your lost father in Ryme City. Instead of your dad, you find a hard-boiled little yellow investigator who is a Pikachu. The adorable guy loves guzzling black coffee, talking tough, and bragging about his mastery of detective work. Together, you'll investigate crime scenes, interview witnesses, discover evidence, and interact with various Pokemon to solve puzzling cases. Pikachu may not be the detective he claims, but he can communicate with other Pokemon who might have the clues you need. There are over 150 animated cut-scenes starring Pikachu, and you will love his tough-talking, hilarious personality.

Another interesting title in the Pokemon series
At this point Pokemon has tried so many different kinds of games apart from their main story games, such as Pokemon Ranger games, Mystery Dungeon games, and many more. Detective Pikachu is just another experimental game, but if you are someone who enjoys different kinds of games, this would be worth a shot. Most of the appeal is the countless cutscenes that you can witness with your Pikachu doing many different things related to detective work. This game is like no other the company has done so far, so if you're only interested in battling and leveling up Pokemon you catch, this is not the game for you. I enjoyed the story much more than I thought I was going to, and it left me wanting more. The gameplay gets tedious however as the same mechanics are used the entire game. Again, it was the intriguing storyline that kept me going. If you are looking for a new experience that is not like any others in a long time, this game is worth renting, but not buying as once you complete it, there is very little to no reason to replay it. Overall, a well done game that proves Nintendo can continue to crank out very strange ideas.

Cute little game to rent
Cute little story only 9 chapters long. You do have to talk to a lot of NPCs. Wouldn't buy to short to be worth the money. But it was fun to rent.

Great to rent bad to keep
Great game but short with not much replay value. The human characters are pretty dull. The story is ok.

cute but repetitive
Voice acting cute, cute story but 90 percent of the game is talking to the same npcs over and over again in circles asking them all one different question each time.

New Look on Pokemon
I absolutely love this game, I know I gave this game an 8 but like every game, it has it's flaws, so the 8 fits best in this situation, I loved the game story and would love this to have another update adding where we finally find Harry (No Spoilers I swear) but the gameplay does get iffy, the parts where you're doing the "Detective" work is clunky and the whole way that you do it is very vague. The game doesn't tell you at least where to look and what to do, for a kid it would be pretty hard to play the game even through the ones where you mash A or you hit the line in the correct spot, I like the aspect but they could've added more. Back onto the "Detective" parts, the whole system is quite good but as I said, I was very confused in some parts like Chapter 7 I got stuck on what to do, mostly because of very vague telling, and I'm not talking about "a little" but vague, I mean VERY vague, it took me a full day to figure out that ONE chapter. The whole UI was also good but had a big flaw, and that was that you had to milk everything out of everyone in the game, I would've loved to have that "I know exactly who the culprit is, now lemme get the evidence for that" no no no, the game had me ask everyone and everything, every detail was important (which was really not the case), and had me think of "everything" but its overall a great game, except for the wasting time "flaw". BUT, don't stop me from getting the game, I swear it's good, it hooked me on immediately, try it for yourself, and have a great day!

Cute but Boring
I'd heard a lot of good things about Detective Pikachu from the Japanese version that's been out for some time. When I heard it was coming to the U.S. with expanded content, I was excited. A different take on the traditional Pokémon titles, even different than the other spin-offs? Count me in! Unfortunately, behind the interesting premise and cute veneer lies a rather dull and shallow game. I made it half-way before calling it quits. The game is definitely cute and well acted, but the characters, story, and gameplay are boring. Nothing seems to change for Tim and Pikachu throughout the first half of the game, and when I realized the mechanics wouldn't improve and that I wasn't going to be doing anything different, that was enough for me. This game would probably suit me more if I was Pokémon superfan, but alas, I don't know the name of all 600+ and this just falls flat as a result. Definitely a rental, I could see it being over in around 10 hours tops.

A sleuth of fun
The game is a blast from start to finish. It's longer than most adventure games, and has great writing, voice work, and animation. But it also lacks "replayability". The puzzles are simple, the story is basic, and the game relies on certain tropes. Pikachu can only be heard by the main character, Tim, he has lost his memory to some degree, and Tim is searching for his father who disappeared. It's plenty of fun, but I'm glad I had Gamefly, because I would never buy this game unless it were very cheap.

This game is so easy and slow paced. Its not meant for adults looking for a decent puzzle mystery game. Ita suitable for young children

great but sad
its a really cute, fun game, yea it may be shorter than other notmal pokemon games, but still a good game, ive spent 2 hours to get past 2 chapters. 9 in total. so roughly 9 hours? considering theres phrases from pikachu to "collect" and coffee spots to hit and detective tips from pilachu, its atill plenty of game play. worth it to me. too bad i cant just buy it from here instead of searching online
