Just sent this game to the outgoing mail after being hit with a wave of boredom. I will get to the specifics later, but tedious and repetitiveness are just some of the cons with this game.
First, Fairy Tail after Tenrou Island is extensive with the anime spanning hundreds of episodes. You can not make this game last only 30-40 hours without the cracks in storytelling become blatantly obvious. This game should have easily been 60 hours long to at least get newcomers and fans more value for the cost.
Second, I can not deny that the artwork in this game is crisp and colorful. The same goes for the soundtrack. However, the quantity of locations to explore are limited compared to other RPG games. Furthermore, looking past the artwork reveals unsophisticated, bland towns and monster areas. The graphics for the monsters are okay but I think they are slightly inferior to those in the latest Atelier games. Lastly, would it have killed the developers to add a greater variety of monsters rather than simply regurgitating the same monsters in different colors?
Now going to the tedious and repetitiveness nature of this game, the first thing to understand is that no matter what, the fundamental objective is to make your Guild great again. That said, you do quests and upgrade the guild's facilities to earn enough renown to make your way to first place in the rankings. Unfortunately, the quests' lack of diversity borders on pitiful. They only take minutes to complete and they simply have you going from A to B the entire time. The facilities grant you various bonuses upon upgrading them but those bonuses are minuscule in the bigger picture of leveling up and equipping your characters. Also, you don't feel any sense of accomplishment for upgrading them. As for the game's dialogue, a few lines of dialogue simply do not make for a bonding event between guide mates just as a short and monotonous quest make for a character story.
I'd say this game is slightly overrated.
