Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland invites players to assume the role of Elmerulia Lulua Fryxel, a young aspiring alchemist training under former student turned mentor, Piana. Lulua studies diligently to fulfill her dream of becoming a great alchemist just like her mother, Rorolina Frixell. But during her training, Lulua discovers a mysterious Codex, awakening an ancient power within her that enables Lulua to decrypt but a single page with many more riddles for her to unravel. Players will be tasked with performing actions focused around the core Atelier series gameplay Gathering, Battle, and Synthesis to allow them to decipher more of the text, as well as learn exciting new types of alchemy. Lulua sets off to Arland in the hope that she can improve her powers and uncover the riddles of the Codex. When arriving, she learns that her mother's atelier shop has been forced to close. Relying on the help of the Codex, Lulua works hard to save the shop before it is too late. The first steps into her new adventure are filled with excitement - little does Lulua know that Arland is home to many mysteries yet to be awoken.

No Eng Dub! Among other issues.

I think Atelier Lulua continues the downward spiral in the franchise. I was looking forward to this game, especially since it was the Arland trilogy that introduced me to Atelier. But I was tremendously disappointed when I saw that it has no Eng Dub. While I respect the opinion of those who oppose the Eng Dub option, to me, this feature adds a Western touch that doesn’t make the franchise feel right without it. Furthermore , the world doesn’t move as fluidly, for lack of a better word, as previous games. The only saving grace in this game I can think of is that the world is beautifully colored, but that’s about it. Even then, you’ll be distracted by the grainy texture of the game’s infrastructure. I fear that if this is the future of Atelier, I’ll have to turn away from it.

Need English Voiceover

I played all of the Atelier games because I love the puzzles and the stories and characters were funny. I am American, I cannot relate to the game now without English voiceovers so it totally ruined it for me. PLEASE bring them back!

Another rehash of past Ateliers

If this was my 1st Atelier, I would probably get into it as all of them have beautiful artwork, relaxing music, atmosphere, and similar elements. I just came of off Atelier Feris and I would say the characters and storyline in Feris were way better. The voices, the personalities, the interactions - and as others have mentioned - Lulua has no English dub (this means you only get to hear the voices in foreign language, which is very annoying.) A major element in the series is the alchemy synthesis and mixing, so this is going to make the biggest impression in the game, I feel. I just see a lot of regurgitation and rehashing - nothing new. All elements are the same and they just replace a few variables and overly elaborate names of each character. I'm going to give it a low score but overall, after 20+ successful past games I guess they have nowhere else to go or nothing else to do!
