The Re-birth of the RPG World as we know it
Being the first Suikoden game on the PS2 they put alot of effort in the design and nature of this game and it definately shows. The entire world and plot line is pretty user friendly and what i mean by that is its very hard to get lost or stuck, but at the same time you still have to figure everything out as you work through the game.

The biggest standout feature of this game is the Trinity feature. This game plays through from 3 different main character's points of view. Their travels intertwine numerous times but depending on who your playing you see events from a different point of view, and because of this alone, makes an enormous amount of intrigue the whole way to the end. There is also 3 minor storys you can play. One you build your own 'castle' so to speak.(Sorry ne more on that would be a spoiler), Another is a main character bad guy that you can only get by obtaining all 108 stars (109 if you count him, Not telling which one though), and you can even walk through the world from a dog's point of view.

They storylines move in chapters, and after each one it takes you to the trinity point so you can switch to another character and play their part of that chapter so you can play all 3 stories at once without spoiling the ending. There are 3 chapters for each character then 4,5,6. The minor chars. each have 2 and none for the dog, hes just for fun.

The battle system is much easier than the newer suikoden games, but also offers less, such as formation attacks etc... But definately play this one first.
Im not sure exactly how many playable characters there are but I assure you there are over 70 you can use and duh lol 108 you can get. They each are unique.

Trading feature is good to make some extra cash even though theres not an excessive amount of time to do it, it always keeps record of what costs how much and where.

ANYTHING YOU DO AS ONE CHARACTER EFFECTS THE STORY OF THE OTHERS. ex. find herb in ch.1 it will not be there for neone else

a decent RPG despite its outdated specs..
the game started by showing you 3 perspective view from different characters. It is the first for me. The gameplay and graphic maybe old.. but it's decent enough.... along with quick load time and traditianl but at a much faster pace system.. making it a decent RPG. There's NO voices over, so it feel a little akward, but it's not a big deal.. This game worth a rental. if you are looking for a turn based RPG.

Not bad
This would be a fantastic game if it wasn't for a couple of things, first off the cutscenes were waaay to long, way to frequent, and most of all way to boring.I found that the multiple character storyboards were rather boring as well.If you like alot of gameplay and don't mind jumping from story to story then I'm sure you'll enjoy the game but I couldn't stand jumping from one character to the next and doing pretty much the exact same thing over from a different point of view.Unless you have a lot of free time save yourself the headache and get a different rpg with one main storyline.

A Very Memorable Game
It has been some time since I played this game, but this game was one of the most memorable I've ever played. It has the same Suikoden flavor but it is presented in a very unique way.

The atmosphere, the music, and the whole world the way it was presented, there was just a feeling to it, a loneliness that resonates in my mind till this day.

A little weird, but definitely a must-play.

Way off base.
I dont see how anyone could possibly compare this game to the rest of the series. It's terrible. The only thing it has done was give me the urge to dig out the far superior Suikoden 1 and 2 for PS1.

Amazingly excellent
I've played all five of the Suikoden titles at this point.

It's an excellent series... and i must say that this Game, and Number 5 (The newest one at this point) are by far the best.
Actually I Found the technical setup of 3 to be superior to the later games even. the menus are well organized. and the plot is absolutely utterly well done.

This Is one of the few games I felt was actually somewhat thought provoking. IT does an excellent job of switching between the point of view of several main characters. The Character development is WELL Done. One of the unfortunate parts about many suikoden games is that you collect 108 characters, but who the heck are these people??? you don't get to play with most of them... nor are their personalities fleshed out.
In this game there are four (ok six.. but the other two are pretty short) playable main characters (3 of which are required). Each person has their own comrades who you get to spend 10+ hours(each group) of playtime getting to know before everyone comes together hours down the road.
This game also has many adult references.. but says things in well written ways which are obvious to adults, but not obvious to children (Similar to the movie "The Incredibles")

The opening animation and music is amazing, furthermore the graphics in this game are better than those of Game 5 (four years later).

This is an Absolutely Excellent Title, There is a good reason that it's rated in the top 10 or so RPGs on Gamefly.

- Justin
