It's a bit full of itself
There are a lot of things to like about this game but ultimately disappoints. And I don't mean as a sequel to one of the more beloved games of all time but rather a disappointment in and of itself.
The good:
- The visuals. Graphics, artwork, character models, and environmental design are amazing...almost next gen
- The music. Hits the right emotional notes when required and very effective at establishing the ambiance and mood
- The horror elements. There are several jump scare moments and several encounter areas are truly anxiety inducing
The bad:
- The story. First, it's just waaaaaay to long. Also, the characters make illogical and uncharacteristic decisions to service the plot.
- The gameplay. While the graphics are best in class I would say the gameplay feels rather dated. It's at best passable.
Conclusion:
This game is an interesting case where I think some people like it more than they otherwise would because of their affection for the predecessor and many others dislike it for the same reason. As for me, as a sequel story, this missed the mark big time. It does a good job justifying its existence and I understand what they tried to do with all of the characters...but ultimately it feels more like they've tried too hard to manipulate me as opposed to the original which evoked genuine and honest emotional responses from all who loved it.

Pretend this doesnt exist if you loved the first one...
I honestly want to rate this lower but it does have great graphics and I loved the audition if the bow. I absolutely loved the first game. this game was good up until the joel part and then just downhill from there. As dog loves we literally had to look away and cringe every time we were forced to kill a dog. And then you just keep losing people and even Ellie kinda sucks. so there is no hope or redemption and I honestly want to erase this from my memory and retcon the story to have ended at the end of the first game. And they all lived together and maybe found a cure or not but...anything but that...they ruined it. Also Politics and zombies don't mix ...so please stop.

More SJW garbage
This is yet another series that has been destroyed by the woke mob. I'm 2 hours in and so far the story has been all about Ellie's lesbian encounter with Dina. On top of having to play as a Trans thing that murders Joel, they even threw in some interracial collectibles that you find, so they can check off every one of their woke checklists. I guess just add TLOU to the ever growing list of things that the 'woke generation has hijacked and destroyed.

Half the game it was
I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt for a game/justify it, but how are you literally going to ruin what made the first one so great, they ruined Ellie's character so much the allies in the game, only put up with her for the plot, she use to be this carefree laughing girl, I understand character development, but in this since it makes no sense, not to mention we have over double the collectibles, making a 20 minute mission 40+ minutes, most the game is based on flashbacks which are weird and if you know the story it hinges on a single event which is hard to care about again because it's literally the only plot, I made to like the 3rd day and I just couldn't get into it

Don’t ruin the first game by playing this one.
Outside of the graphics being amazing, I found all other aspects lacking. The story is rather boring at the beginning. The manual save system doesn’t work as I have had to redo content that I saved. The combat system is pretty much the same from the first game. The new characters are unlikeable and Ellie’s jumping is the worst. She jumps like 3 inches off the ground and the controls for it are very bad. Then theirs the story which just really made me mad. Plot wholes and characters doing things that they would never have done just so they have plot devices. It’s very unfortunate cause I had very high hopes for this game but for me it has let me down as bad as the release of final fantasy 15.

Amazing game
I honestly have to say I was sad when it ended. It was a beautiful game and such a emotional, but yet good story that kept me intrigued the whole way through. I will eventually buy this game! P.s don't listen to the negative reviews. Try it for yourself and you won't regret it

Exceptional Presentation & Gameplay - Weak Story
My experience with TLOU2 is bittersweet. This was the most polished gameplay experience I've ever had, with incredibly detailed graphics, tight gameplay, great AI, and wonderfully performed/detailed characters. However, while I felt the story started strong, it veers into territory that never lands on solid ground. The original TLOU stands as one of the best games I've ever played, and much of that had to do with the exceptional story and connection you develop to the characters. But after having finished TLOU2 I am not sold that the story presented a compelling enough reason to not leave the first TLOU as a standalone game. I wish Naughty Dog had used their exceptional talents on a new IP instead. That said, TLOU2 is still a game very much worth playing. The question is whether or not you'll want to wipe the story from your memory at the end of an exceptional gameplay experience.

Technical Masterpiece
I agree with all the comments that this games is one of unrelenting bleakness and some unsubtle gender politics. But it's also tremendously engaging and fun to play. And the graphics and details are phenomenal. I really enjoyed it.

Ignore the haters and fanboys
If you enjoyed the first game rent 2 and decide for yourself. Personally, I feel it IS a worthy successor to the original. This game is pure eye candy. The gameplay is on par with the original. Like the original I will replay this game numerous times. I am very strategic in my approach. It's fun for me to ninja up and pick people off without anyone ever realizing it's happening. If you really want a challenge don't kill anyone you don't have to. That would be the most likely approach Abby would take anyway. The story is the story but your actions within that story changes the assertion that "the characters do what they would never do." Until you cross a wasteland of infectious cannibals to avenge your father's death you have no idea what you would do. Let alone what someone else would do. Jusayin....
