Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a block-building role-playing game with a charming single-player campaign and a robust multiplayer Building Mode that supports up to four players online. Create your customized character, team up with your fearless friend Malroth, gather the skills required to become a full-fledged builder, and combat the Children of Hargon, a vile cult that worships destruction! Then, take your builder online and join your friends to collaborate and create something truly magnificent. Don't let the name fool you. Despite the two, this is a completely standalone experience featuring new characters, an expansive world, unlimited building combinations, and a story line that's sure to satisfy longtime fans and newcomers alike!

An anime-themed Minecraft. Loved it.
The story is relatively "on the rails" for questing and following blueprints for certain important buildings (which can be destroyed/redesigned afterward); however, I still spent much more of my time exploring, gathering materials, and building up my towns and island to look the way I wanted - until I finally cut myself off due to this being just a temporary rental. My two main criticisms: 1) No option to ramp up monster presence/attacks on "The Island", and they drop off altogether post-story, making fortifications feel wasted. 2) Most fights, certainly none of the boss fights, incorporated the builder aspect of the game by needing to build/repair stuff during combat in order to progress/win. Overall, I really enjoyed this game and am looking forward to an eventual third installment.

Extremely on rails, no freedom, and repetitive.
This game has a lot of good qualities to it and has many great improvements compared to the last game. Most of these improvements seem like things I remember wishing were in the first game. The story has a lot of good and even touching moments with great writing, however these moments are few and far in between. But overall the story is enjoyable. The game itself though usually feels like a chore to get through, which is never a good sign. This game is so on rails that whenever you try to do anything from exploring or building something your own way (which is the entire theme of the game), you are stopped. For a game about creativity this game gives you zero choices most of the time and actively stops you from even being creative. Lastly this game is so repetitive that the same type of story plots and quest lines are used four time over. Some fun, but this game requires a lot of patience
